STUDENTS
Current and previous senior thesis students
Alana Margerum ’23 – Bates College, 2022 – present
Alana's research focuses on plant succession and chemical weathering on post-glacial landscapes in southeast Alaska. Alana conducted fieldwork in Juneau in the summer of 2022 and used dendrochronology to constrain the ages of moraines. She is working on pedogenic Al and Fe extractions in the lab and using chemical weathering indexes for her senior thesis.
Eli Gundersen ’23 – Bates College, 2022 – present
Eli is evaluating the impact of whole-tree harvesting on soil erosion rates in a watershed at the Hubbard Brook Experimental Forest, New Hampshire. He is using Pu isotopes as soil erosion tracers and stable carbon isotopes as qualitative indicators of soil disturbance.
Luke Sedor Protti ’22 – Bates College, 2021 - 2022
Luke completed his undergraduate degree at Bates College in 2022. For his senior thesis, he investigated the evolution of soil erosion rates on recent post-glacial landscapes in the coastal temperate rainforest of southeast Alaska.
